Preksha Meditation

Posture:

You may select a posture of meditation in which you can sit comfortably and steadily for a long period. The posture of meditation may be ‘full lotus-posture,’ ‘half lotus-posture,’ ’simple cross-legged posture, or ‘diamond-posture’ (Vajrasan).

Mudras : Position of the Hands

There are two alternatives: one position is called Jnana Mudra. Keep your right hand on the right knee and left hand on the left knee, keeping the palms turned up. Let the tip of the index finger touch the tip of the thumb with a slight pressure between them. Keep the other fingers straight.

The alternative position is called Brahma Mudra. Keep both the hands on your lap one above the other by keeping the palms upturned. Let the left palm remain under the right one.

Keep your eyes softly closed.

Recitation of Arham:

Start the meditation session with the repeated recitation of the mantra Arham.

Exhale fully, then inhale completely. By slow exhalation begin the intonation of the mantra. Concentrating your mind on the navel, produce the sound “A” for about two seconds. While concentrating your mind on the Centre of Bliss situated near the heart, produce the sound “Rha” for about four seconds. And lastly taking your mind upward from throat to the Centre of Knowledge situated at the top of the head, produce the sound “mmm” for about six seconds. Inhale deeply again and repeat the same exercise nine times.

Visualize that the sound waves are criss-crossing and weaving an oval-shaped web of armor all around you, protecting yourself from the evil effects of the external vibrations.

Recitation of the Mahaprana Dhvani:

Alternatively start meditation with the repeated recitation of the Mahaprana Dhvani. Exhale fully, then inhale deeply as long as you can. By slow exhalation, produce the sound “mmm” through the nostrils like buzzing of a bee, while concentrating your mind on the Centre of Knowledge situated on the top of the head and keeping the mouth closed. Inhale deeply again and repeat the same exercise nine times.

The Aphorism of the Aim:

“Sampikkhae Appagamappaenam”

Perceive and realize the deepest and highest levels of your consciousness by your conscious mind. See yourself through yourself. For perception and realization of the self, practice preksha meditation.

Resolve for Meditation:

“I am practicing preksha meditation for the purification of my mind (psyche)”. (Repeat three times)

Motivational Posters - A Source Of Inspiration?

What Inspires You? What motivates you to get up in the morning? Are you one of those people who have a burning desire to achieve something or are you drifting along doing your daily routine? This is something you may not have put much attention on or even any at all but, if you look closely, you may find that there may have been one or more people who have inspired you in your life.

Any person who has been successful at something will tell you something like, my grandma always said…or my dad always gave me the best advice, or someone once said to me…! Get the picture?

Words can be very powerful in influencing our lives. A certain phrase can suddenly just hit you and BAM; a sudden realization can change the direction you’re going in! The reaction one has to these realizations varies tremendously.

You may find that a certain saying moves you while Joe next store doesn’t feel moved by it at all.

There are many areas of life that we look for inspiration or motivation; love and relationships, business, sales, and even in times of trouble such as war and natural disasters.

If you were in the military, you might find something like this quote, as seen on a motivational print, to be something that inspires you; “Bravery-Soldier…It takes an extraordinary person to face danger and maintain composure”.

A mother may find this inspirational, “Direction-Family…There are two important things we can give our children. One of them is roots, and the other is wings”

Another is “Leadership-Fisherman…A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way”.

These are all quotes that are often seen on motivational prints in offices and homes, but individuals we know or meet in our daily lives can also inspire us.

The visual of the poster or print along with an inspirational saying underneath can be a great tool to inspire your self and others and serve as a reminder of the path you are on.

Remember though that an inspiration or motivation from others is only as good as what we ourselves contribute to it. The real motivation comes from within.

Hang them up at work or at home and enjoy!

Creating Fear for Inspiration

If you have read or have been involved in personal development, whether it is goal-setting, time management, motivation, weight loss, or the many other categories and have not taken hold of what you desired, chances are that you’re lacking an inner drive towards that elusive goal.

You have brought books, CDs, tapes, searched the internet, and maybe even attended seminars, but yet you find that you fall short of your desire or you don’t even come one step closer to what you set out to achieve. You may ask yourself “Why do I keep failing? Am I supposed to just remain who I am today?”

Do not lose hope and sight of your goal. If you have obtained personal development resources before, you have a desire to improve. You have a desire to be intimate in your relationships. You have a desire to look your best. You have a desire to free yourself from debt.

Here is a fantastic analogy to help you see the problem. By not defining the problem correctly you can not provide a correct solution, leaving you to wonder your whole life about “what could have been”. Think of the books you read, the cds you listen to, the seminars you attend, as a spark. This spark has an extremely powerful potential. It has the potential to ignite and create fire. Can you see the relation between the spark and the resources you read and listen to? These personal development guides create an internal spark in you. They pump you up guiding you towards your goal’s correct path.

However, it doesn’t take long until you find yourself not moving forward on the path toward your goal, or that you have totally moved off the path. You may have even lost ground by feeling so beaten up after failing you enter into a state of depression and fear. What you need is to turn the spark gained from the personal development resources into a roaring fire. A fire so dominant and independent that it will continue to burn and not require outside help in keeping it that way. To see what can fuel that spark into a fire, ask yourself, “this internal desire I have to improve, where is it coming from?” Are you sick of arguing with your partner or friends and you want to have more intimate relationships? Is it that you’re tired of worrying about being able to put food on the table, provide clothing, and shelter? Are you embarrassed by how those additional pounds make you look?

Now that it is apparent as to why you want to improve, make it a strong fear. Using the financial example: you are struggling to create and provide the necessities. Create the fear that one day you will be unable to provide, or that for once in your life you want to give without worrying about the financial burden. This is your fear. This is your fuel for the spark to ignite it into a roaring fire and keeping it burning strongly.

So the next time you feel you do not have what it takes to achieve that elusive goal, recall the fear of what could be. Pull out that fear and use it to propel yourself forward. By asking yourself “what could be”, you will avoid yourself saying later “what could have been”.

Is the Life You’re Living the Life You Want?

In pre-revolutionary Russia, a rabbi was walking to the synagogue. A Russian soldier stopped him and asked, “Who are you and what are you doing here?” The rabbi answered, “How much do they pay you for doing this job?” The soldier replied, “Twenty kopeks.” The rabbi then said, “I’ll pay you twenty-five to ask me those same two questions every day.”

Ask yourself those two questions “Who am I? What am I doing?” One of the best ways to live your life with intention is to listen to yourself deeply. Living each day with intention can be energizing and fulfilling. Too often we find ourselves waiting for some outside influence to come along and give our lives meaning.

What kind of choices do I need to be making now to live out the life I want to live?

It’s easy to get to the point where your work (or your business) is running you, rather than your work (or business) actually serving what you genuinely want for your life as a whole. Another question you might ask yourself is, “How can I design my business to serve my life and not just have my life serve the company?”

I imagine that we all have been moved by a friend’s death or illness to re-think our own lives and decide that we need to be more intentional about moving from the life we live to the kind of life we want to live. So we make resolutions and plans… and then something happens that we have no control over. (My hunch is that many of us re-evaluated after the events of September 11, 2001.) We get attached to life happening exactly as we have planned. The challenge, though, is how to become more comfortable with the both/and way of living our lives. Most of us have been taught that choices we make must be either/or choices. And yet, it’s by embracing the paradox that we can begin to live as comfortably in the not-knowing as in the knowing.

The poet, David Whyte, describes this as being able to contain both the “Ah!” of discovery and revelation, and also the “Argh!” of driving to work through slow traffic on a gray Monday morning. It’s like recognizing the grief of losing a client while simultaneously experiencing the joy of gaining a new client. It means allowing ourselves to experience the richness of the both/and.

It’s about making plans and at the same time not growing so attached to them that we overlook opportunities placed in front of usopportunities that are much greater than we could have imagined in our planning. Or about making plans and becoming so attached to them that we are devastated when they don’t unfold as we have imagined. This is a way to approach what life hands us in our personal lives, as well as our business lives.

I have a friend who is a good example of living one’s life with intention. She has made choices that have taken her out of the hurry and scurry to a very simple life in the country. Her choices have been simple, and yet the process was not without pain and grief. When she was very young, she’d made her “life list.” Knowing what she wanted her life to look like, she married her best friend. It wasn’t on their “life list” to have him die at the age of 29. Recovering from the blow, however, she eventually re-grouped, made necessary and appropriate adjustments and constructed a new “life list.” She never stopped living intentionally; she accepted life’s realities and re-directed her intentions. That is the essence of adaptation; and adaptation is the essence of growth.

In her book, The Female Advantage, Sally Helgeson focuses on the strategies and organization theories of four successful leaders. These women know how to plan strategically and, at the same time, not get so attached to those plans that they miss emerging opportunities and threats that necessitate changing those plans. They are flexible enough to notice opportunities and respond to threats in a timely way. They trust that the opportunities which come their way will unlock their futures. They understand that the future cannot be reduced to a simple matter of objectives, nor achieved by the mere application of will.

Living your life with intention won’t be the same as your co-worker or friend might do it. I keep thinking I’m eventually going to get there. It’s constantly being demonstrated, though, that it’s a never-ending process. It’s about being authentic; having a consistency between our words and our actions; between who we say we are and how we live. Having said that, though, we are all “inauthentic” from time to time. We have to be thoughtful in certain situations. For example, if speaking your mind to someone with the power to fire you could result in your getting fired, and if you are not prepared to suffer the consequences of speaking your mind, you might decide not to say anything. That doesn’t mean you’re not being authentic. It means you’re being intentional about your choices at this particular time.

SUGGESTIONS FOR LIVING INTENTIONALLY

• Listen deeply to yourself; work on developing self-awareness.

• Ask yourself “What are my choices, and what are the trade-offs?”

• Take action, and trust yourself.

• Find support; have a coach, a group or family to talk with.

I started this piece thinking and writing about paradox and making choices, and I find myself back at the beginning. We all have made choices for which we are responsiblechoices that may have hurt ourselves or someone else, though we didn’t know we were making flawed choices at the time.

So even though we may not make decisions perfectly, it is somehow refreshing to realize that we don’t really know who we are in every situation, and we can have only so much control.

Living intentionally does not spare us from mistakes or suffering; however it does mean that we have been actively engaged in making our lives more fulfilling.

Negative thoughts are “harmful”

Psychic Maria Duval warns of the risks inherent in the act of stirring up negative thoughts when calling on the intervention of Magic.

Certain mediums have the gifts of clairvoyance which allow them to look into the Astral World (invisible world). They tell us that each human being is surrounded by a sort of luminous halo that varies in colour according to its place on the body and the individual concerned. From the colour of the Aura, it is possible to gain a precise picture of a person’s state of physical and spiritual health.

In the case of some people, “leakages” of vitality occur, manifesting themselves by the discharge of a sort of coloured “vapour”. It is then possible to see, clinging on to the Aura, kinds of excrescences which experts designate by the name of “larvae”. Like larvae, they feed off those to whom they have attached themselve , “sucking” their vitality.

But fortunately, there are other “better” energy forms. These are beneficent, for not only do they not sap the vitality of those on whom they are located, they exercise a protective function towards them. These fluidic forms constitute entities that are commonly called “Guardian Angels”.

Truth to tell, according to Maria Duval, it is mainly from our thoughts and our words that either larvae or beneficent psychic beings develop. The larvae are generally produced by our negative and destructive thoughts. Moreover, when the emission of negative thoughts is very intense and extends over a long period of time, we speaking of “self-bewitchment”. The individual is the victim of a form of “bewitchment” which he has unconsciously provoked of his own accord.

PHP OR ASP.NET

I told friends of mine that work as programmers, that I was planning on getting to grips with application and web development as I had lots of ideas for products, scripts and automation tools. They mainly laughed at me and followed up with technical reasons on which programming languages and platforms I should study.

After I did my own research I decided that for web development I would concentrate on PHP and MySql database for information storage/retrieval and c# and .NET for application development. This cause many arguments among my friends. The main argument was, since I was going to be studying c# for application development, then I should choose ASP.NET as my web development platform of choice since there would be less of a learning curve. They still swear by their arguments and all I got was pros about their programming languages and tools : (I’m no programmer but my first lesson in the world of programming was - Programmers are very loyal to their development platform of choice and Its almost impossible to get a neutral opinion of different programming languages and technologies )

So Ive decided on what technologies I would be studying based on my own experience online :

PHP for web application development and scripts :

- I’ve been online and creating websites since I was 18 and most of the tools and software I use to drive traffic and increase my page rank etc were built using PHP. They are usually installed onto my hosting accounts and perform their tasks (usually scheduled) based on configurations.

- Every hosting package Ive purchased supports PHP and MySql (I also found out during my research that it is much more expensive to host a website or web service build using ASP.NET).

- Most Forums and membership sites I used were build using PHP

- API to query search engines etc had lots of PHP support and documentation.

C# For My Windows Desktop Applicatios

- A friend of mine sat down with me and gave me a tour of building windows programs using .NET. My I was so impressed. He was using a drag and drop approach to quickly build an interface and was quicly able to demonstrate using code to make those controls work.

- I certainly don’t intend or even think i’d be capable of attempting to build a complex enterprise application with multiple users etc. I just want to be able to build simple single user interfaces that belt out the functionality I need.

- He even wrote what he called an “XML Web Service” in PHP (he wrote a piece of PHP code that simply added two numbers) He then called that PHP code from his c# desktop application and he presto, the PHP went away and did its work and passed the results back to his c# program.

Thats all I needed to see. My mind is running overtime - I now know that buy using “XML Web Services”, PHP and c#, I can architect to solutions I need.

I’m along way from achieving that but I believe Im on the right track. I never thought programming could be exciting. The problem solving and architectural side of programming will be a fantastic booster for my analytical and problem solving skills.
