JV Giveaways…The List Builders Friend.

If you need to build a huge responsive list in a short amount of time then JV giveaways can be the vehicle that drives you to success. The concept is very simple but incredibly powerful. A group of people, usually but not limited to internet marketers, all contribute a product that will be given away for free. This is the hook that will bring in the prospects. Let’s face it, freebies always make good bait.

The well run giveaways are picky and only permit quality products to be given away. This ensures that people come back to the next JV giveaway. There are always new players involved that bring in new gifts and the old veterans usually do not offer the same product over and over again as response rates start dropping.

The power behind the JV giveaway happens when everyone starts promoting the site. With sometimes hundreds of people promoting the same url, the amount of traffic to the site can be huge. Everybody gets to leverage the efforts of the other JV partners. This means that even if you are a beginner with a small list, you get to benefit from the lists of all the other partners that are participating in the JV giveaway.

If you are an internet marketer looking to build a list you should be taking advantage of this tactic. After all, it is free. You only need a product to giveaway which is easy to attainable at the giveaways themselves. I have put together a nice list of all the on going and up coming JV giveaways here. It also includes some links to sites where you can pick up products to use in the JV giveaways.

Whats your favourite antique?

I personally have been collecting Star Wars Collectables for over 10 years, but they are not really an antique. My friend likes to collect antique furniture and has a house full of items all older than 50 years but really I seem to like memorabilia more than antique stuff, I just am not really that into older stuff, seems a bit silly to go to something older when you can have cool modern stuff - even if it is modern designs based on art nouveau or something!

How To Keep Your Internet Surfing Secure

Spyware means any program that can change your computer system
while gathering information about your activities while you are
on the computer. The information is usually sent to the spyware
creator via your internet connection without your knowledge. In
order for it to work correctly, it must be able to run without
the user shutting the computer down. Being hidden also helps the
program to get installed in the first place. Because of this,
spyware is usually disguised as a Trojan horse.

This is a program that quietly runs in the background, inviting
the user to run it, while spreading its malicious code. This
code can do any number of things. It can start right away or it
may simply install a program that won’t start for sometime. Once
it does start, it can delete all of the files on the computer or
it can infect the computer and try to infect other computers on
the network. There are a number of ways spyware is delivered,
and as a Trojan horse is the most common. It usually comes with
other pieces of software that a user might find interesting.
This software is usually shared through a file-sharing network
or downloadable off of the internet. Once the user installs the
software, the spyware also gets installed.

The most common reason spyware is infecting computers is for the
profit of the spyware creator. In most cases, it gets
information about the computer user and shows them pop-up ads
related to their needs. It can even redirect internet search
engine results to the benefit of the spyware creator. In
addition to these things, spyware can infect your e-mail address
book. Once this occurs, spam will be sent to every single person
in every single infected address book. This spam will usually be
an advertisement of some sort for the spyware creator’s website.
Once infected with spyware, the creator can also profit from it
by stealing important information like bank account information,
credit card numbers, or contact information. It can steal the
password information for your software licensing. Spyware can
also take control of your modem to make expensive telephone
calls from the creator. There are currently five major spyware
threats to your internet security.

The first major spyware threat is Gator or GAIN. This program
displays banner and pop-up ads based on your internet surfing
habits. It comes bundled with many popular software programs.
The major difference between Gator and most other spyware
programs is that users are clearly notified of its download
before it occurs.

Another major spyware threat is CoolWebSearch. This spyware can
do a number of things. First, it can hijack your current
internet settings, making things display wrong, and causing
other system problems. It can reset your homepage, and despite
the number of times you try to change it, you will be unable to
reset it to your desired site. It can also take over your web
searches, displaying only advertiser sites when you search for
information on web items. It installs bookmarks to pornographic
websites in your “Favorites” menu. It can cause your system to
continually reboot. It can also cause serious system slow downs.

The third major spyware threat is 180searchassistant. This
program has both pop-up and pop-under ads based on the user’s
search terms. Moreover, once a site is clicked on, a new browser
window opens to display more advertisements based on the search
terms. It constantly updates by itself, and it can display
pop-up ads even when the internet is not running. It can cause
system slow downs.

The fourth major spyware threat to your internet security is
ISTbar. This spyware program displays pornographic pop-ups, even
when the internet is not in use. It can hijack your browser
settings, reset your homepage, and cause continual cascading
pop-ups while you are using the internet. It will continually
download related files without your knowledge. Moreover, it can
cause system slow downs.

The final major spyware threat to your internet security is
Internet Optimizer. This program redirects your computer to its
advertising sites. It also downloads and continually updates
itself without your knowledge. The worst part about this
spyware, though, is it leaves a back door open to your system so
other viruses can penetrate your defenses.

Different Kinds of Website - Which Suits You?

Often the best type of website for you to launch for your business depends on the on the nature of your business, your corporate goals, the stage of development of your business and the resources you have at your disposal. Here are some types of websites to give you an idea of what you might consider looking for.

Static Websites - Brochureware

Most small businesses start out with a small, “static” website.

In order for the business to update their static website, they will have to contact their website development company and request that the changes be made. It is for this reason that they are not updated very often and remain “static” for a long period of time.

A static website can, however, feed off dynamic content from other websites by syndicating content. Such content often includes the latest weather, news headlines, exchange rates, etc.

A static website mainly serves to provide a business with basic online presence.

Dynamic, Database-Driven Websites

Today, most successful websites are dynamic, meaning the content changes regularly without necessarily feeding content from other bigger websites (as in the case of many static websites). Dynamic websites are usually maintained by members of the business using a Content Management System - a web-based software application that allows them to update their content without having to learn anything about web programming.

Corporate Style Websites

This is the next step up from a static website, where the business can update the website content themselves without having to get hold of the web design company.

It is not necessarily more expensive to launch a dynamic website than a static website. In the long-run it will in fact be cheaper if you intend to update regularly (which in itself is a good Internet Marketing habit)

Many businesses publish press releases, photo galleries, project portfolios and other things more relevant to the nature of their business. Online enquiries can also be stored in their back-end as a post to being sent to their email address.
Many mainstream dynamic websites are a mixed hybrid of the following types of websites:

E-Tailers or E-Commerce Websites

E-Retailers or E-Tailers are websites that allow visitors to purchase products online.

The website owner uses a back-end to add or remove products and their properties, process orders, analyse sales and more.

These kinds of websites have become more popular in recent years as the online shopping industry has grown quite considerably (Internationally, at least).

In South Africa, however, many businesses are hesitant to implement online transactions into their website strategy as it can be expensive to implement the necessary security measures. This often discourages businesses as they are uncertain on whether or not they will see significant returns.

An alternative to a Shopping Cart System is to implement a Quotation System. This means the visitor adds all the items they are interested in to a “quotation basket” and once done, they submit it to the company and are contacted by a sales
representative to complete the transaction.

Information Driven Websites

Eg. Website directories, article directories, a Short-Story/Poetry submission website, etc.

These websites mainly derive revenue from selling advertising space on their website.
The information is generated by people that visit the website and submit content - the website is self-generating and the content follows current trends and interests.

Although the owners of the website do not have to produce the focus-content, they do need to be able to control the type of content that is submitted - they need to implement measure that will prevent spammers from flooding their website with unwanted content. They also need people to moderate the content that is generated on the website.

Community Websites

Eg. Job Search Websites, Online Dating websites, Discussion Boards, Special-Interest Portals

These websites usually cater for certain types of Internet users. Their main source of revenue may be advertising or offering different levels of memberships with different benefits (e.g “Gold Membership”)

The website almost becomes type of social being in itself by interacting with the member on a very personal level. For example, after submitting a post to a discussion board, the website will email the member to inform them when they have received a reply. The website and the member, in a sense, form a virtual relationship.

The membership registration process is usually automated allowing the website owner to concentrate on selling advertising space and monitoring performance.

They do however need to moderate what members do on the website in the case of chat rooms and forums (eg. To stop users from swearing, advertising for free, promoting hate speech, etc)

Remember that the best type of website for you to launch for your business depends on the on the nature of your business, your corporate goals, the stage of development of your business and the resources you have at your disposal.

Has Broadband Access Achieved Its Goals?

Has broadband internet access achieved its goals?

If you think back several years, you can easily remember how
broadband internet access was touted. The basic idea was that
with the increasing rate of transmission offered by broadband
access connections, people would become far more productive
creatures than they ever had before. They would make massive
leaps in research, telecommuting would become an everyday
occurence, and the home and workplace would merge forever. Well
we’ve had some time to review. Has this broadband vision become
our reality?

While broadband has clearly emerged as the leading product for
both home and business users, much of the promise of high speed
internet has not yet been realized by the average American
consumer. Yes people use broadband access more than ever, but
its arguable that productivity has been increased. Certainly
people are surfing the internet at speeds of unheard of a mere
decade ago, but are they actually getting more done in the final
analysis? This question can be answered with a simple “not yet”.
More people telecommute than ever before, but you’d be kidding
yourself if you didn’t notice the huge traffic jams that occur
in the “Real world” more often than they do in CyberSpace. Most
of humanity is still in a 9 to 5 mindset because old habits die
hard and people still like to do business in person. As of 2006,
telecommuting remains more of a dream than a reality for most
people.

When businesses originally pictured a popular internet, they
expected applications such as video-conferencing to be the big
winners. In reality, no one could have expected the true
bandwith hogging applications such as music downloading and file
sharing would become as millions of people found the power of
peer to peer networking. As the advent of broadband spread, more
and more users became increasingly affected with virii and
spyware. With broadband and always-on connections, the security
risks are truly enormous. More resources than ever are now spent
policing the internet of the many foul actions that can only
occur because of relatively cheap broadband connections. All
forms of spam have been able to proliferate over the relatively
generous broadband connections, as tightly monitored bandwith
became less of an issue than ever in the past.

Broadband access has delivered on many of its promises. People
can now download music and video faster than ever before. Tasks
that used to be laborious on a dialup connection are now almost
instantaneous on a fast internet connection. Those of us who’ve
been using broadband for awhile should remember what the days of
the 2400bps were like. And we should never forget just how slow
and frustrating life in the slow lane could be.

Ceredigion Car Sales..sigh*

Rural Car Buying

Finding a good car dealership in ceredigion is an absolute pain. I brought a new honda last month that had to be recalled so I favoured not going back to that garage, and since then I havent found a car I have liked enough or trusted enough to put down any cash. Its a real shame that buying cars rurally is so difficult, If someone could come up with a seriously good website or medium to sell cars in ceredigion then I am certain it would work, especially for me because I am stuck between getting a lift 30 miles to the nearest lexus dealership and looking elsewhere - its such a pain living on the coast of wales some times, but in other ways its a blessing so I guess I should not moan.

Succeeding as a Seller on E-Bay

Being successful is almost everyone’s dreams this day and being
successful in E-Bay could be a reality once you set your heart
into it. Like in any other business, patience and perseverance
in the world of E-Bay are factors needed to ensure that you are
going to be successful here.

Aside from those virtues, a lot of strategic planning is needed
to ensure one’s success in E-Bay. The first thing that you could
do is to mark your territory. This means that you should be able
to determine on what kind of specialization you would like. For
example, your area of specialization is books therefore you
should focus yourself first in establishing a name in the books
category before eventually branching out your items. This would
help you in establishing a name through categories thus forming
a solid foundation for your business. In terms of products,
remember that a wide margin market is important therefore
products should not be too expensive. Products that are easy to
dispose of as well as in demand are great investments for people
that are planning to be successful in the world of E-Bay.

Customer service also plays an important part in being a
successful seller on E-Bay. This is because customers always
know if you are the type of seller that prioritizes the needs of
their customers. If the first transaction with a seller made an
impact to them then the tendency of customers is to buy and
purchase again. Aside from that, customers that are truly
satisfied with a transaction made from a specific seller would
be able to recommend the products as well as the services to
other potential customers without paying anything to the
customer. This is a good way to expand your horizons as a seller
which could have a great impact to customers. As a seller, you
should always seek feedback regarding the transaction that they
made with you as well as the state of the product. This is
important because customers would feel that they are very
important in your line of business. It is important to have more
positive feedbacks in E-Bay because most customers would rely on
a seller because of their good reputation on the web.

Last but not the least, always hold honest transactions so that
people would learn to trust you and in return, you would be able
to maximize the benefits of E-Bay.

Your Website Strategy Should Be Based on Two Questions

Most website communications strategies can be based on
the answers to two questions:

Who is Using the Internet?

According to www.worldinternetstats.com 68% of North
Americans are using the Internet (we will focus on North
America because we are an English language company). Of
these users, 89% of people with an annual household income
of more than $75,000 are online and 88% of people with a
college education are online. 78% of people aged 18 to 29
are online and 74% of people aged 30 to 49 are online.
Users are more or less evenly split between rural and urban
and male and female.

These demographics indicate that most sites should use language
that appeals to younger and well educated audiences, who
probably don’t have a lot of time on their hands. But don’t make the language too complex. The reason is in the next section.

How Are They Using the Internet?

According to an article by TJ and Sandar Larkin in
“Communications World”, the publication of the
International Association of Business Communicators, the
strength of website based communication is the ability to
search for and retrieve specific facts and information. The
weakness is a low level of comprehension. Information that
requires a higher degree of comprehension should be printed
on paper. This is because the website user is thinking
about where to go next and not about what they are reading.

So it follows that key points should be readily
identifiable, key information should be in point form with links to longer documents and that documents that require some
comprehension should be available for printing.

Ron Strand is a member of the faculty of the Centre for Communication Studies at Mount Royal College and President of Strateo Consulting Inc., a marketing and communications consulting firm. His website is http://www.strateo.ca.
