My Life in West Wales

This week I have been searching for a used car in ceredigion, reading the papers usually works but it seems they are having printing problems every week - with their used motor classifieds not printing well enough to read the details!!! Anyhow moving on I found a good place to get 2nd hand motors in ceredigion, proceeded to find a nice sa-ab and purchased it from a young fellow from 2 miles down the road - excellent service - good local site - worth a bookmark!!

Secondly I have been looking at buying remote control cars, primarily for my nephews upcoming birthday but also I think remote control cars are great motor Christmas presents!! I found this cool site with corny genius - RC King is a funny yet useful site where you can find all the remote control goodness you need in your life!

I hate traffic - Driving to work in a car :S

How many times have you driven to work in your used car - 50? 500? 5000? If you work chances are you have a used car and chances are you drive to work in your used car every day.  Repetitive journeys, congestion because of poor road systems and your old used car having mechanical issues all make the journey more irratating.

Mr.Scientist recommends you get an electric car, cheap efficient - but just as bloddy slow! effectively taking longer to get to work, and shifting the gear of frustration from the used car cog to the slow electric cheap boring car cog. Not worth the money on aa batteries.

So I suggest either buying a newer, more efficient car, or a newer used car - something that has a bit better efficiency than your used petrol motor - something diesel perhaps - a 1.9tdi? That would get you to work cheaply, and perhaps a rocket launcher to help move some of that pesky traffic?

car insurance groups do affect premiums

Car insurance groupings are an important factor when buying a new car - you should always try to get the most appropriate engined car for your situation. Theres no point paying more on the insurance than the car is costing you - unless its worth the extra premiums because of its style or fun.

To get the best car insurance premiums possible you should look up the car insurance groupings online, find the car you want and choose which engine size (and insurance group) is best suited to your needs. This is free information and easily found on a site like car-insuracne.com.

Just a bit of advice for all you car drivers in the UK!!!!

Tractors Wales

For years tractors have been improving, with hugely more efficient engines being produced year in year out. This creates a similar deficit of second hand tractors in the available market. In wale’s tractor and plant garages are almost as common as car garages and car dealerships. You might drive down the road and see a renault dealership with loads of used renault espace’s, modus’s etc. then carrying on you may see a honda garage with 10 odd honda civic’s from the last decade littering the front car lot.

Then chances are you will see a plant hire/ used tractor / trailer seller - they are common place. Just an observation but the sheer amount of tractor sellers is staggering. Let it never be said farming is dead!

Personally I like the Ford 4000’s - they are great tractors that last well - good solid diesel engines  that will plough push and pull thier way through the years like pigs in mud.

Electric cars for sale in uk

Electric cars are a bit like marmite. People either love the idea or hate the fact that they are so sensible. In reality humanity has come a long way with cars, the combustion engine has provided us with the ability to progress at the speed we have.

It was the real progression from the steam engines (burrell traction engine) to modern day. Diesel has hitch-hiked along but really without petrol combustion engines we wouldn’t be as developed as we are today.

Inevitable progression has perhaps come to its end - but should we all really just hand over the keys to our gas guzzling cars yet? there isn’t a viable electric car for my situation - that would do 300 miles in a day on a motorway comfortably without needing new batterys or a recharge. Yes I have to stop to refuel my car, yes my car burns fossil fuels. But it works, and allows me to work in turn. So for me an electric car may not be such a viable mode of transport.

However for your 30 mile a day maximum journeys, I don’t knock it. Its ideal - charge it up at night and drive slowly everywhere - sorted!

Build it and they will come (probably by car)

Constructing something can be arduous, long winded and tiring.  Similar traits can be found in things such as buying a used car, selling a nearly new car and such. But theres a certain law to the world, that is if you build something of some quality, based on good (or very bad) ideals and ideas, people will see it, some of them will chat about it etc.

The chances are though your numbers will still be small. Used car sellers are a prime example, 20% use online means to advertise thier cars. The remaining 80% (rounded from 81 down for sake of article) are left pushing thier sales in the real world, with thier cars vans and lorries sitting in lots throughout wales with sold signs as big as thier windscreen. And its worked for 10s of years, whats going to stop a car seller/tradesman from continuing this technique of car selling. Well in short everyday more people are switching to the internet for its advances in finding a good used car in wales. Locality isnt that much of a concern in a growing global marketplace.

Local is however still better, driving locally to find a used car can be much more rewarding, not to mention all the saved CO2 emission’s from driving locally.

Costa Rica Mountain Biking - Volcano To Volcano By Mountain Bike!

Booking yourself and your friends on a Costa Rica mountain biking tour is essential, if you’re ready for exciting mountain biking with a difference!

How about getting dropped off at a magnificent 10 000 feet high volcano, and biking down a 7 mile descent to the foothills of the volcano next door?

Or riding all day through lush rain forests with 800 species of birds - not to mention the primates and crocodiles!

Costa Rica mountain biking is full of these and other exciting rides. The routes feature active volcanoes, very high mountain passes, lush tropical, sub-tropical and temperate forests, waterfalls, and river crossings.

As most of Costa Rica’s roads are dirt, the country easily lends itself to exploration by mountain bike. It is also extremely hilly, with many heart-stopping descents! Costa Rica mountain biking has trails suitable for riders just starting out, as well as experienced bikers looking for a challenge.

Your Costa Rica mountain biking adventure can start with a guided drive up to the top of the Irazu Volcano at 11,000 feet. Descend to 1,500 feet through miles of lush, green scenery, ending in the small town of Santa Cruz de Turrialba. If your timing is right, you may even get a taste of the Turrialba cheese fair!

The dirt road takes you through fertile dairy and farm land, cutting its way between the Irazu and Turrialba Volcano. A support van, with a driver and a guide-mechanic are available with extra bikes, food, and a first aid kit.

Alternatively, Costa Rica mountain biking can take you to the Aguila de Osa Inn from where you will be able to undertake many local rides on the bikes they provide. Most of the rides are between 1 and 3 hours in duration, and cover a wide variety of landscapes, from beach rides to river canyons (including suspension bridges!) to forests and farm areas.

The Costa Rica mountain biking experience truly is in a class of its own.

Quepos offers a number of guided biking trails. A combination bike/boat tour, will have you floating through a mangrove forest. Excellent backup is provided on the trail, as well as entertaining information about the fauna and flora.

Join an exclusive ride clinic and use your Costa Rica mountain biking travels to learn new skills, in spectacular surroundings.

Bikes are very well equipped, and safety is always taken into consideration. Romantic sunset rides are also available during high season. This is a very pleasurable way to beat the heat!

While Costa Rica mountain biking may seem more adventurous riding on your own, the conditions often make the presence of a guide preferable. You may just end up appreciating that support van after a tiring, fun-filled day…

If you want to combine Costa Rica mountain biking with other great adventures, you will find tours that include snorkeling the reefs of the Caribbean, or river rafting on the many great rivers, or just straightforward hiking with beautiful views and scenery.

A Costa Rica mountain biking tour is usually followed by delighted comments, about the fact that the places visited were not swarming with other bikers!

All of this is probably only possible with a Costa Rica mountain biking package, where over a quarter of the country was designated forever wild…

Endurance Cyclists Should Strengthen Their Legs

An Australian research team has shown why training for strength is important for cyclists. Untrained men who were not cyclists used a hack-squat apparatus (a weight-lifting machine used to strengthen the legs and buttocks) to lift 85 percent of the heaviest weight that they could lift once, five times in a row. Then they rested and repeated the sets of five. They did this four times, in three sessions per week. They did no cycling during the strength-training period of the study. They were given cycling endurance tests before and after.

The study concluded that the strength training made men far more efficient in cycling ( Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise , July 2005.) Efficiency is the amount of energy a person uses to perform a certain amount of work at high intensity. However, strength training did not improve the men’s aerobic capacity: the ability to use oxygen or circulate blood. So strength training did not improve heart or lung function, but it did give the participants extra power to push the pedals harder, which helped them ride faster.

Top-level competitive cyclists train for endurance by riding for three to eight hours a day. They usually cannot push heavy weights with their legs because their cycling schedule does not give them time to recover from strenuous weightlifting workouts. Since this study used untrained cyclists, it does not suggest that professional cyclists should change their training methods. Competitive cyclists gain tremendous leg muscle strength just by climbing steep hills very fast, which exerts as much force on their leg muscles as weightlifting and makes them very strong.

How To Choose The Proper Bicycle

There are many different types and styles of bicycles. You will need to decide on the type of biking you will be predominantly doing in order to help you narrow down your choices. Below are just some of the types of bicycles available on the market today.

The first bicycle we will mention here are what are considered by some to be comfort bicycles. These are the type used by most weekend recreational bike riders. They usually have a comfortable shock-absorbing seat and shock absorbing front forks and wide pedals.

Another type of bike which is a bit more rugged than the comfort bike is a trail bike or light duty mountain bike. These bikes can take a bit more rough stuff than the bikes mentioned above but are not meant for serious mountain biking.

Touring bicycles are for those who go long distances and faster than recreational bike riders. These bikes are built for riding on the pavement. They are light weight bikes with more shock absorbency than comfort bikes.

Cruiser bikes are heavier than the comfort bikes with fatter tires. They are good for the road, or riding in the sand.

A true mountain bike has a stronger frame and components than any other bike as they are intended for off road and rugged terrain. The tires on a mountain bike are knobby and wide for more shock support. The seat and handlebars are positioned to allow for the rider to lean over while maneuvering the bike.

Recumbent bicycles are becoming very popular with older riders and those who have some limits in physical ability. The rider reclines while pedaling in a feet forward position. The seat is much more comfortable than on any other bicycle. Recumbent bikes sit low to the ground and have multiple gears.

Talk with family and friends who own bikes to get their opinion on what may be the best investment for you. If you don’t think that you’ll stick with bike riding long term and if you don’t plan to do more than weekend riding you don’t need to spend a fortune. Visit several bicycles shops and talk with the pro’s before making a decision. You can get many years of enjoyment if you choose the right bike for you.
