New York, New York!
September 23rd, 2007
It’s been a long time since I’ve been on holiday, so I thought it was time I treated myself to a trip abroad. I began my search for that infamous bargain… I fired up Google and away I went on a travel search-arama! I started with the usual sites that pop into your head, you know, the big names: Travelocity, Hotels.com, Ebookers etc etc but they didn’t really come up trumps. I wasn’t even sure of the destination so I read a few lonely planet guides and settled on the big apple, home of yellow cabs, broadway and time square. It sounded perfect. All I wanted now was a cheap hotel in New York which offered luxury at a cracking price. Was that too much to ask?
Perhaps… Then I stumbled upon a surprise find over at Expedia. To be honest I was shocked that one of the big names would offer the right deal after trawling through the competition. But that shock soon turned into pleasant surprise when I looked through the huge inventory of New York hotels available at Expedia. Great! I thought, got the hotel what about the flight? I also needed a flight to New York and I wanted it to be with one of the bigger airlines, since it’s about 6 hours from Heathrow and there is nothing worse than sitting on a plane for hours, in a seat with 6 inches of legroom, whilst someone kicks you in the back as you cross the pond!
So which airline would it be? Well I was actually inspired by an ad on TV. I’m not usually a slave to advertising but since it had that guy from the Sopranos and basically said they were used to flying angry New Yorkers I thought I’d take a look at American Airlines. Well again things looked promising and I ended up booking an American Airlines flight to New York at a pretty good price.
So I’m all set for my holiday in New York. I’ll let you know how I find the Big Apple when I get back. I’ve already booked my tickets for Phantom of the Opera and the Empire State Building and I can’t wait! And remember, if you’re looking for a good travel deal on your next trip don’t forget to check out the big names as they can sometimes prove to be surprisingly good!
