About Tea

September 1st, 2007

Tea in America grew in popularity by leaps and bounds after World War II. Prior to that, Americans consumed mainly Chinese Green and Oolong tea. However, during the Second World War, they had to rely on the British for tea and hence they started consuming only Black tea which was brought in by the British from India. Today, it is served at most places as an alternative to coffee. A preparation of tea very popular in America is iced tea, which is tea served chilled. In fact nearly eighty percent of tea consumption in America is iced tea.

Besides these, tea consumption has also grown quite popular in places like Germany and Portugal. Portugal was the first country to introduce tea drinking in Europe. Ta is currently found in Portugal as Gorreana. Germans serve strong Black tea with cream and believe it can cure headaches and stomach ailments. Tea traditions in the western world are certainly not as exotic as in the Orient, but they do have their own little romanticism associated with them.
