My Top Ten City Break Destinations in Europe 2007-2008

I’ve travelled about Europe a LOT in the last few years (women :-) so I know a thing or 2 about good places to go and getting to those places cheap!
My top 10 places all meet some simple criteria -
1) Easy and cheap to get to
2) Lots to do and see.
3) Great food & drink for low budgets
4) Good shopping - all tastes
5) Wide range of cultural stuff.
LONDON -
My old home. Superb restaurants & shopping. Amazing museums, art, theatre, nightlife – The lot.
STOCKHOLM -
Where I live now. Built over 14 islands where Lake Malaren meets the sea. Cobbled-stoned streets in the old town. Boat tours to the local islands of the vast 14,000+ island chain.
PRAGUE -
Fairytale beauty - The Charles Bridge has to be seen to believed. Candle-lit restaurants & banging party bars. If you’re adventurous try a locals club & pay half tourist rates.
AMSTERDAM -Party town where you can do all the things you’ve heard you can
Plus canals lined with gabled houses and huge houseboats. Something for everyone from mad nightlife to chilled culture.
BRUSSELS -Great beer
Fantastic architecture & museums. More Michelin restaurants per square kilometre than any other city in Europe. Bargain weekend antiques markets.
VENICE -
The stunning Rialto Bridge, Doge’s Palace and St Mark’s Square. Unforgettable. Quaint shops & enticing restaurants. Ideal for a short break.
LILLE -
Designer shops lining beautiful olde worlde cobbled streets.Brilliant restaurants. The Les Heures Bleues where global artists fill the streets & squares performing on holiday weekends.
MILAN -World leading Italian and international fashion designer studios. Festivals year-round. The third largest cathedral in the world. Loads of art galleries & museums.
BARCELONA -Bustling, lively and fun. Amazing gothic architecture. Legendary nightlife. Sedate old and modern art museums. Fantastic climate.
STRASBOURG -Cosmopolitan, bustling French city with loads to see and do. Canals and mediaeval bridges. La Petite France, a beautiful quarter of the city with half-timbered houses in pastel shades.
What about Paris, Rome etc?
Always the problem with top 10 reviews! Partis I’ve been to many time and should be number 11. I’ve not been to Rome so I can’t comment…one day soon…
